History of Essential Oils
(This is no new news!)
Did you know that essential oils have been around for many millennia? The use of oils in many areas of the world and history have long been documented. They are, in fact, known to be some of the oldest and most powerful substances on Earth!
In the history of mankind it seems that the Egyptians were the first people to extensively make use of aromatherapy and aromatic herbs and included their use in religion, cosmetics as well as medicinal purposes. Aromatic essences and resins were also extensively used in the embalming process. Essential oils are mentioned numerous times in the religious texts of the Jewish and Christian faiths. They have an extensive history of being used in anointing.
It wasn't until the early 20th century that people began to Rediscover Essential Oils. In France, during WWI, Dr. Moncière used essential oils on the soldiers. In 1907 a French chemist, Dr. René-Maurice Gattefossé, PhD, who is often called the Father of Aromatherapy, began his study of essential oils. He wrote a book called "Aromatherapy" in 1937. Dr. Jean Valnet, a doctor from Paris, used essential oils on patients during WWII. Two of his students Dr. Jean-Claude Lapraz and Dr. Paul Belaiche, examined essential oils and realized that they have amazing capabilities!
Since these rediscoveries the availability of essential oils have become quite ubiquitous.
